Welcome to First Steps Playgroup

– Registered OFSTED URN: EY473132 –

First Step Playgroup is a community-based preschool which has been at the heart of Heston for 25 Years. Our staff are dedicated teachers many of which have been with us for over 10 years and live locally, so they understand the needs of the families in Heston and are able to offer lots of support. Many speak the community languages which helps children to settle more easily and supports their families.

Pre-school education at First Steps

Our preschool is set up to be a home from home so children feel relaxed when they join us, as for many this is their first time away from their parents. We take time to get to know your child and support them to become happy and settled. We follow the early years curriculum (the Early Years Foundation Stage) for children under 5 years old, and all of our team are experts at offering this for each individual child, no matter what their needs may be.

School Readiness

School readiness is very important and we are experts at supporting children and their families so that every child has the skills and understanding they need to enter school, whether that is at nursery or reception or specialist provisions. We concentrate on children being able to be independent, have good communication skills, make friends, enjoy books and maths but most importantly to love learning! We have a high ratio of teachers to students and children are supported in small groups as well as one to one. They also have time to choose their own activities and the playgroup is set up so every area supports learning.

Safeguarding Statement

At First Step Playgroup we have robust safeguarding procedures in place to protect our children. All staff and volunteers complete an application process attend an interview and need to provide references which are thoroughly checked as well as pass an enhanced DBS check (criminal records bureau). Everyone receives safeguarding training and this continues throughout their time with us, in this way we can ensure that all our systems are up to date so that we can support our children and families.
